Small spots of rust can occasionally appear on any metallic surface that is exposed to moisture, oxygen, or contact with other metals. While this can be surprising, please rest assured that these spots are completely harmless and can be removed easily by following the steps below.
1. Wipe the Affected Area
Use a soft paper or cotton cloth to gently polish the surface where rust appears. Avoid using steel wool or abrasive tools, as these may scratch the metal.
2. Prepare a Citric Acid Solution
For best results, mix a 5% citric acid solution with warm water (around 40°C). If you don’t have citric acid available, lemon juice or vinegar are great alternatives.
3. Fill and Soak
Pour the solution into the kettle, and let it soak for 30 minutes.
4. Agitate and Inspect
You can gently swirl the water in the kettle around to speed up the process. If any rust remains, use a soft cloth to loosen and remove the residual spots.
5. Rinse Thoroughly
Empty the solution and rinse the bottle three times with clean, fresh water to remove any remaining acidity.
🞴 Once cleaned, all the rust should be gone. However, if the issue persists, the unit should be replaced.
